While I’m in Minneapolis…

IMG_0734

I’m in Minneapolis this afternoon. I should be exploring the Mall of Americas. I promise I’ll blog about the Butternut trip when I am back in CT later this week.

While I’m out of town, I’m sharing a few of Six Train’s blog hop stops that could use a little love.

Since I’m in Butternut for the next two posts, I thought I’d repost a few of my blog hop stops. The ones that got the least amount of blog love. I’m closing comments until I return.

Six Train gets a little more press

IMG_0089

Last week’s interview with Anna Maria Hansen appeared in the 7/17 edition of the Price County DailyWrite this way: author Kourtney Heintz comes to Butternut!

I’m dishing on my drafting style, where I’d go in a time machine, and how Emerson helps my writing in a fun Q&A with Mae Clair on her blog today.

I also have a guest post on TheSelfPublisher.com about my thoughts on whether I’ve “Made it“.

What’s Happening in Butternut?

P1010438

Last week, the lovely Anna Maria Hansen emailed me to set up an interview with her for the Price County Publications. They cover Butternut and Park Falls and the surrounding towns. Anna Maria is a reporter and a member of the Third Story Writers Guild.

Before any interview, I get nervous. Two minutes before she was scheduled to call, Emerson leapt off the bed and came to sit in front of me. He wanted to be picked up. I started to put him back on the bed, but then I remembered how calming his presence was during my interview with Tracy O’Shaughnessy. I sat him in my lap.

I was really impressed that Anna Maria found the time to read my book before the interview. I had a delightful time talking with her. Can’t wait to see the article!

This weekend I got an email from Kelly Meredith, the President of the Butternut Area Historical Society. She wanted to say hello and request my press kit to help her promote my upcoming events in Butternut! I am so excited to be a part of the town’s celebration!

I have never met more friendly and helpful people in my  life. Butternut is truly a magical place. I am counting down the days until my visit, which is from July 23-29.

I’m doing a library talk at the Park Falls Library on July 25th at 6pm on my path to publication.

From July 26-28th, I get to participate in the fantastic schedule for their Pioneer Days.

On July 26th, there is a lovely reception with town officials and dignitaries and me at 7 pm.

On July 27th, I’m going to the mural dedications and then signing books from 12 pm onward at The Quilt Shop. A portion of the profits from those book sales are going to the Butternut Area Historical Society.

On July 28th, I’m in the parade to honor Butternut area history at noon.

If I’m not coming to your area, you can still place an order for a personalized autographed copy of my book. Find out how at: http://kourtneyheintz.wordpress.com/signed-copies/

What’s Going on With Six Train

The Enfield Fair Author’s Tent was awesomely organized by Katy Lee. The signing table had a nice tablecloth. Each author’s book was displayed  in a stand and their bio was in a nice see-through placard. The books were organized in bins and the sales were processed with a card reader and a cash box.

Everything was set up to perfection!

Unfortunately, the weather refused to cooperate. It was 95 on Saturday with high high humidity.

I broke a sweat walking to the tent at 1 pm and never stopped sweating. Luckily, mom had frozen bottles of water, which I kept applying to my pulse points and under my shirt. It didn’t help much.

No one wanted to carry a book in that heat. Who could blame them?

Only a few people signed up for my giveaway. Several took bookmarks. And I sold 1 book in 3.5 hours.

I wasn’t able to sit with my sciatica so I stood most of the 3.5 hours with an occasional kneeling.

The upside was that I got to catch up with several fantastic authors. I’m talking about you Rebecca Rose, T.L. Costa, J Monkeys, PJ Sharon, and Katy Lee.

If I have to be roasting in hell, I’m glad I had you all there with me.

*****

I had a lively Q&A about alternating POV, my writing day, feedback, and my warrior lapdog with Susan of  My Withershins that posted on July 7th.

I guest posted on Cat Forsley’s blog about how Taoism influenced my personal philosophy and my writing on July 9th.

Today, I’m over on Coleen Patrick’s blog talking about how an introvert became a promoter.

*****

I just got a re-order for a dozen more signed books from the Novel Idea Bookshop in Park Falls, WI.

*****

June sales were pretty good. About 65% of my sales came from my events. I sold 100 books total in June.

*****

Right now, I’m preparing two talks for my time in Butternut. One is a nice meet and greet and the other is much longer and geared toward a local writing group, The Third Story Writers Guild, and  discussing My Path to Publication.

Finding Your Story: My Wolcott Public Library Workshop

IMG_2655

I am someone who tries to maintain normal when things are anything but normal. It’s how I cope.

So I didn’t mention that a loved one was hospitalized in late May/early June. I couldn’t talk about it. They are now home and recovering.

I was also in a really bad car accident. I’ve been and still am in a lot of pain so I cut back on my work. Doing the bare minimum online. Trying to keep the blog hop going.

I had a workshop and booksigning scheduled for June 27th. This is my livelihood. My only source of income. So I had to find a way to do my job despite the pain.

I have sciatica. It means I can’t sit without nerve pain. So I did my presentation by walking around.

My workshop was called “Finding Your Story: How to Tell if an Idea can Become a Novel”.

It focused on how everyone has a story inside them. Could be based on a person, a place or a situation. Something they know as only they can.

I talked about how to find that one thing and walked them through how to develop that idea into a novel.

The library made these gorgeous flyers that they put up all over town.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do anything to help set up that evening.

Luckily, my mom and my Aunt Cindi swooped in to help. My mom carted in books and all our stuff. That’s 7 trips to the car.

My Aunt Cindi showed up early like an angel of assistance and helped move tables and chairs. But she didn’t stop there.

She did an amazing job with the refreshment table, bringing her own dishes to display the pastries.

There was punch with sherbet to keep it cool…

And beautifully arranged Twix…

And an assortment of pastries on her exquisite serving dishes. She even brought a fancy tablecloth from home.

My Aunt Donna helped too. She brought my Grandma H and ran the giveaway, which my Grandma Eileen won (free author swag bag). She was delighted and couldn’t believe she won.

We had a terrific turnout!

Thanks to a great audience, especially Bonnie, Bobbie, & Roberta, we had a lively Q&A that kept me on my toes!

When it came time to do the book signing, I knelt on a pillow.

I sold 25 books at the event and signed books until the library closed.

I want to thank everyone who helped make this night possible!

Suzanne from the Wolcott Public Library set up the laptop and projector and did everything behind the scenes to arrange the event for me

The Friends of the Wolcott Public Library for sponsoring my workshop

My mom and Aunt Cindi for helping set up and clean up

Mom for working the cash box on top of 100 other tasks that night

And all my friends, family, and readers who made the night such a success!

Thank you!
