A Me Weekend

I thought I’d share some highlights from my weekend. It was a weekend of not writing. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve started coloring again to relax my mind during revisions. It’s something I do just for me. It does focus my mind, but sometimes it frustrates me. I’ve been using crayons, but I’m going to try colored pencils since the lines are so tiny in these images.

Brett came in to visit.

Friday we went on a nice walk and caught up.

IMG_1122IMG_1126Then we went to dinner with my parents at Tuscany, where Brett ate “the best lasagna he’s ever tasted.”

After dinner, we settled in for a bad horror movie, Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs. We love the one star ones. Our favorite parts were when the dinosaurs hopped out of the giant hole. They also had a penchant for only taking a small bite out of each person. And watching the neckline descent and the cleavage ascend for the woman running the mine was truly AMAZING.La

Whereas some movies take too much time with the setup, this jumped into action. Though we are still unclear how dinosaurs who are mostly carnivores were able to survive in a small pocket underground for so long. But hell, this was hilarious.

The next morning, we breakfasted at la Fortuna.

The we hit up Target and I took him to Frankie’s for a steak sandwich and half of a famous footlong hotdog.

Then we went home to get ready for his cousin’s wedding that evening at the New Haven Country Club. It was a beautiful, intimate ceremony and everyone had an amazing time.

How was your weekend? Did you make enough “Me Time” for yourself?

  1. It looks like you had a great weekend, Kourtney. I definitely need to take a “me” weekend soon!

    • Thanks Jill! It was good to take a few days away after getting through the initial line edits. I’m trying to work faster to build in more breaks. ๐Ÿ™‚ “Me” time isn’t just great for me, it ends up helping the book too. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hope you get a “me” weekend soon!

  2. Sounds like a great weekend Kourtney, you deserve a break after all the writing you’ve been doing ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks Andrea. I had it planned for a couple months. It’s the only way I can get a weekend off is if I commit to it. ๐Ÿ™‚ It helps with the writing too because when I dive back in tomorrow it will be fresh. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Kourtney. Sounds like fun, relaxing ‘me’ time for you. Your bad horror movie reminded me of the TV show Mystery Science Theater. Don’t know if you ever watched that show, but it was three “people” (not all of them human) who watched bad B movies and made fun of them. It was hilarious.

Saturday was busy for my husband and me. But, Sunday we had a couple of chores that we blew off and just laid around all day long. It felt great!

Glad you took the weekend for yourself and had some fun.

    • It really was. I laughed so much! My bff and I always select cheesy/bad horror movies so we can laugh and talk and question what we just saw. Then we have these insider jokes too from the movies. I never saw that show.

Aw, Sunday sounds like a great day!

Definitely helped me because I’m in that final stretch with the book. The time where I can easily decide I hate the entire thing if I don’t take moments away from it.

Sounds like a wonderful–and much-deserved–weekend. I don’t color, but I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles. I find them relaxing. I haven’t put one together in a couple years though. I’d like to get back to it. (Man, I sound old, but in my defense, I’ve always enjoyed them.)

I’m deep in my edits of my third draft, getting it ready for beta readers, so not much me time this past weekend. It’s tough to wind down when you get so close to the end.

    • Thanks. I like jigsaw puzzles too. It’s a great way to focus on something else and relax your mind. Put it on your summer activity list. That’s the only way I get to do fun stuff. I have to schedule it in.

Oh dear. Have you reached that point where you hate it all because you are so tired of looking at it? I hate that point. I’ve been trying to schedule breaks to avoid it, but I’m sure I’ll be there soon. I hear you. Sometimes you can’t not push forward. Hope when it’s done you can take a little more you time.

  5. In that second picture some of those green plants look like feather dusters that have popped up. Looks like a lovely weekend!

What a great weekend, Kourtney! Sometimes it’s hard to drag ourselves away from our stories – even when I have a ‘me’ weekend I find it hard to turn off the computer in my brain, but I still enjoy it! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Thanks Dianne. I try to schedule natural breaks in my work to coincide with time away from the laptop. That’s why I did the initial line edits so fast. It felt like I earned those 3 days away from the computer. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m trying to slow down, so your wonderful weekend is good inspiration for me… here I am taking some time out for blog visiting… It started with a mini break last weekend as we had to travel south for a family get together, and I’m trying to maintain the vibe ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Good for you! Definitely important to keep making time for you. It’s hard to do with so many things that require our attention. It has to be on my to do list or blocked out on my calendar. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. jmmcdowell says:

Me time is so importantโ€”it keeps us sane and nurtures the creative spirit. For me, that creativity is house painting on the weekends for a while rather than writing, though! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • It really is important to live off the page. ๐Ÿ™‚ I spend so much time with my characters I forget to keep my own life going sometimes. That’s so great, knock out an important me task and enjoy your time away from writing. I wish coloring could be as productive. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. I Love ‘me’ weekends, and rarely enjoy one. I feel guilty, which is ridiculous of ‘me.’ In my ‘me’ weekend, the weather would have to be beautiful, and I’d take several long walks, read, take my guy to our favorite bar for a bite and a beer, play with my grandkids for an hour or so (my Uno cards are always waiting), and then go for another walk. Your photos from your walk and then wedding (and that FOOD) are glorious.

    • I hear you. I’m lucky to have a me day. Usually my me weekends are planned and involve someone else so I can’t weasel out of them. ๐Ÿ˜‰ That sounds like a perfect me weekend. Put it on the calendar and make it happen. You deserve it! Aw thanks. We had a lot of fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. What a fabulous weekend you had and such good company and a wedding too.. Wonderful.. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for sharing such lovely photo’s.. And Loved your colouring ๐Ÿ™‚

    • It was lovely. I love a nice intimate wedding. The bride was gracious. The groom kind. It was a great celebration of them. I’ve gotten colored pencils–they are proving easier for staying in the lines. ๐Ÿ™‚
