Imagine trying to create a masterpiece like this. OVERWHELMING is the first word that comes to mind. I’m betting the artist didn’t try to do it all in one day.
Rather, he broke the work up into pieces and spent weeks on each section.
Until a year later he had a complete masterpiece.
That’s how many things in my life have been lately.
I wanted to refresh my Chinese before Asia. But trying to go over 7 years of training sounded impossibly hard.
Instead, I decided to work through my first year character book. 3 pages a day. 15 characters a day. In April.
Today, I’m on page 100. Which means 500 characters have been relearned and restored to my memory.
With the novel, I edit 1 chapter a day. Sometimes 2. Then I go over both of them 3-4 times until they feel ready for my beta reader.
My book is 35 chapters. Right now I am on chapter 24.
Revising 350 pages felt like a monumental task. But 3 chapters a week became a measurable and completeable goal.
Even with blogging, I started out 3 days a week. Then finally committed to 5 days a week. And I work to make the blog reflect my writing life. Investing myself in each post.
Right now, I’m working to rebuild my body healthier and stronger. Each day, I face challenges. But I take it day-by-day and week-by-week the weight comes off. It’s not instantaneous, but slowly and gradually it is working.
Because I am putting in the time and committed to the task. Seeing it through.
Perseverance is making all the difference in my life.
I am the tortoise not the hare.
