Ode to Cracker Barrel

Having lived the past 3 decades without ever going to a Cracker Barrel, I can now say I have died and gone to heaven.

While in Coventry, we had a Cracker Barrel right next door to the hotel. We had 2 delicious dinners there. The first night I ate the chicken n dumplins with fried apple, fried okra, and mashed potatoes. The second night I had chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, mac and cheese, and fried apples with the chocolate coca cola cake. First off, how does a chicken fry a chicken? In a word–deliciously. I have never eaten such a decadent meal before. OL ate chicken tenderloins night one and a pineapple salad night two. Healthy and tasty he said. Bluck, I say. Bring on the carb and fat.

Of course later that night when OL’s belly was flat and I looked six months pregnant, I almost regretted the indulgence. But the next morning it came down and I still remembered how that moist delicious cake slid down my throat. Yum.

I loved the store too. American kitchy. Bought some apple sour candies.

It was a fun experience and so cheaply priced, which allowed us to indulge in fudge and shortbread and see four mansions in Newport.

I’m starving now. Never heard of it til now. Sounds great. Don’t have any close by. Probably a good thing. I’d be 200 lbs.

    Thanks for the info.
