Doorways

I’ve always been fascinated by doorways. Don’t know why, but I love taking pictures of them. I guess because there is so much possibility in every doorway. We never know where they lead. Who might be on the other side. Which doorway to choose. But I guess that’s what makes life interesting.

This is one of my favorite doorways found in Salzburg. Sometimes I like to imagine what’s waiting on the other side…

I too wonder about doors and windows.

Doors can lead nowhere. How well I know. Windows are the snapshot of the world.

    • True, but that’s the gamble you take everytime you pick one and not the other. Sometimes they go nowhere but that’s where you need to be at that moment. I think we are too action and result oriented. We forget to just have moments where we go nowhere and do nothing. Somehow down time is becoming something we shouldn’t want.

I LOVE photographing doorways, gateways and paths. I’ve made calendars of each of these. For me it is the sense of unlimited possibility, of mystery around the corner or through the door. Sometimes as well, it is the beauty of the doorway itself. My father used to point out to us as kids a doorway that was impossibly narrow in an old colonial row house in our town. He used to wonder aloud who came through that door. I’m reminded by that memory that doors lead out as well as in.

What do you think?
